History

Fr. Michael Tinnon, a priest, retired military chaplain, and a proud and grateful Veteran founded Save A Veteran Today.

“Save A Veteran Today (S.A.V.T.) was created to connect Veterans and caring citizens in partnership.  To ensure that those with much needed resources come to the aid of those with little if any resources – and to make a great difference in the lives of our Veterans who desperately need our help and resources.  S.A.V.T. was born from the idea that all lives matter and no one is indispensable.  It stems from Jesus’ words: ‘For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me,  I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me.’

I’m so grateful for the support of our Veterans Administration (VA) centers and those who compassionately serve to provide education, clinical support, programs and resources to help our nation’s Veterans.  S.A.V.T. will strive to show the same care and compassion for all Veterans.  My special thanks to all those great individuals whose paths I crossed who lived out the idea that, ‘No one cares how much you know until they know how much you care.” — Fr. Michael

History

In walking the streets of Los Angeles and interacting with Veterans from all military branches and all walks of life – Fr. Michael felt compelled to find creative and viable ways to help these great men and women.  All of us, proud and grateful citizens living in the land of the free and home of the brave have no doubt seen the struggles of our nation’s Veterans – young and old.  The inescapable reality: None of us can escape seeing how these Veterans live, sleeping in unsafe places, eating whatever morsels can be found in foraging, searching for cans in garbage dumpsters, and holding placards that read, “Homeless – Need Help.”

AND HELP WE MUST!!!  After all, whenever one member of our family hurts – WE ALL HURT.  So, please help us at Save A Veteran Today to SAVE A VETERAN TODAY.

S.A.V.T. is an IRS approved nonprofit (501c3) designed to help our Veterans find affordable housing, gainful employment in which they feel they can make a difference, emotional support animals as companions, psychological and spiritual counseling, and therapy interventions designed to address Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Moral Injury (MI) related complications.
