Pet Therapy

Pet therapy is a broad term that includes Animal-assisted therapy (AAT) and other animal-assisted activities. Animal-assisted therapy is a growing field that uses dogs or other animals to help people recover from or better cope with health problems and mental health disorders.

Treatment

For Veterans suffering from PTSD and other debilitating mental health challenges, AAT has proved quite instrumental in promoting holistic health.  The goal of AAT is to improve a patient’s social, emotional, or cognitive functioning.

At S.A.V.T., our goal is to partner our vets with pets – and this to aid Veterans suffering from PTSD by providing “pet therapy” or “animal-assisted therapy.”  We will also connect Veterans to organizations that specialize in AAT such as Pets for Vets, Hounds for Heroes, and Healing Paws.  This specific therapy intervention has proven very successful in helping hurting Veterans find health and wholeness.
